[AERONAUTICS – AVIATION] TISSANDIER, Gaston. History of my ascents. An account of twenty-four aerial journeys (1868–1877). Paris, Maurice Dreyfous, 1878. In-8, publisher’s red percaline, plain spine adorned with rich black and gold decoration, the same decoration repeated as a border on the upper cover panel bearing the title, black decoration on the lower cover panel, gilt edges. VIII and 344 pp., numerous black-and-white plates, two fold-out plates. Pages III to VI of the preface are missing. Some foxing. A fascinating edition adorned with numerous illustrations, some by Albert Tissandier, the author’s brother. An engineer, chemist and aeronaut, Gaston Tissandier (1843–1899) devoted his numerous aerial journeys to the scientific observation of the atmosphere and the study of meteorological phenomena. The hardback is very well preserved.
