Paris, Michel Lévy, 1873. 2 in-12 volumes, each bound in off-white vellum, smooth spine decorated with triple gilt lines, double gilt line framing the covers, red edges. 369 and 379 pp. A small stain on the front cover of the first volume, some foxing. Edition ‘expanded with prefaces and entirely unpublished fragments’. In this travelogue, Rome is observed through the lens of Stendhal’s personality, emotions and memories, in which he displays a marked sense of self-centredness. Blue library stamp ‘la Collina’. In good condition, well bound.
