A rare first edition of one of the very first studies on the great architectural achievement of the 1889 World’s Fair, which has become the symbol of Paris.

In-8, ebony half-maroquin with corner pieces, smooth spine with title running lengthwise, illustrated front cover and spine preserved. Binding signed ‘Atelier Lardenchet’.
XII and 81 pp., frontispiece, a facsimile letter, 34 figures reproduced in black, both in the text and as inserts.
A few scattered foxing spots.
First edition of this study, featuring fine illustrations by Poyet, published in the year of the inauguration of the ‘Iron Lady’, originally named the ‘300-metre tower’.
A science journalist and aeronaut, Gaston Tissandier (1843–1899) was the editor of the journal *La Nature* and one of the most active promoters of scientific progress in his day.
