Description
[ART BOOK] RAETZ, Markus. Mirror. No place, M. R. 1986, 2003 edition. A relief medallion on aluminium, engraved on the reverse with ‘MR 15/26’, to which is attached, on a small cardboard slip wrapped in fishing line, a handwritten text in German and French. The object is presented in a thick cardboard box in in-4 format, with cut-outs and blue felt lining, containing the certificate of authenticity and the title handwritten in black ink, with a black fabric spine and a black fabric drawstring closure. This medallion depicting a woman’s bust features a detail from Paul Delvaux’s surrealist painting, “L’Aurore” (1937). Markus Raetz (1941–2020), a Swiss contemporary artist, built his body of work around perception, distortion, form, the mirror and the gaze of the other. As evidenced by this medallion, whose humorous little caption reads: “Hang the relief from the ceiling using the string so that it swings freely at eye level. To clean, use a non-abrasive product specifically designed for aluminium.” In perfect condition.
