Large 8vo, pine-green half-basane, smooth spine decorated lengthwise with a band of gilded arabesques, covers in green percaline stamped with floral motifs. 580 pp., 1 publisher’s leaflet (New Year’s gift publication), numerous vignettes in the text. Normal wear to the binding, some foxing, particularly in the first part of the volume. First edition and first printing of the more than 150 wood-engraved vignettes after Daumier, Grandville, Monnier, Gavarni, Meissonier, Jean Gigoux, Lorentz and Wattier. On the inside back cover, an ex-libris vignette bearing the initials ‘MF’. A good copy.
