Description
[MUSIC] FRANÇAIX, Jean. Autograph score for a trio, with a dedication and an autograph, signed card to André Kostolany. An excellent musical manuscript by one of the most prolific French composers of the 20th century. 13 pages handwritten in graphite on 14 score sheets (350 x 270 mm). Two sheets are slightly browned and frayed at the edges, with a few small marks and creases at the corners. The score appears to be the first movement of a trio. On the first (double) sheet, the composer Jean Françaix (1912–1997) has inscribed a dedication in black ink: ‘For Mr Kostolany, with my apologies for this disorganised musical text and the expression of my deep gratitude’. Enclosed is a signed autograph card addressed to the same recipient (2 pp., in-16, with his printed letterhead, 14 July 1958). The composer makes a request to the financial expert who holds the US copyright for the serenade ‘B.E.A.’, published in 1955. Jean Françaix would like his correspondent to sell this copyright on to his European publisher, Schott, as soon as possible so that he can arrange for a printed edition to be published in the United States. André Kostolany (1906–1999), a famous speculator and financial writer, made his fortune through his investments and became one of Europe’s most influential stock market commentators.
