Description
[REVOLUTION] SÉRIEYS, Antoine and ANDRÉ, J.-F. Unpublished Anecdotes from the Late 18th Century, as a sequel to *Anecdotes françaises*. Paris, Monory, printed by Didot the Younger, Year IX – 1801. In-12, marbled sheepskin, plain decorated spine, red title label, yellow edges. 2 blank folios, VI and 274 pp. Some scuffing, mainly at the joints, with a tear in the upper cover, and the tail cap missing. A rare first edition, partly printed on blue paper [Barbier, I, 184]. As the lengthy subtitle indicates: ‘A work containing the key to several major events, unknown details concerning Princess Lamballe, Director Carnot, the current President of the United States of America, an interesting conversation between Louis XVI and Bailly, etc.’ It is primarily a compilation of fanciful anecdotes set against the backdrop of major historical events, many of which relate to the revolutionary period. A fine copy in a contemporary binding.
