Description
[AUTOMOBILE]. A large illustrated album on the motor industry for the year 1900.
An excellent publication, bearing witness to the rise of the motor industry during the Belle Époque.
Paris, Automobile Club de France – Huget & Minart, undated [1900]
Folio size, green half-basane and imitation leather Bradel binding with corner pieces, burgundy percaline covers, the front cover featuring the Automobile Club’s coat of arms and the title in gold lettering.
128 pp., numerous illustrations both within the text and as inserts.
The publisher’s cardboard spine has been restored; there are some marks on the percaline.
Published under the auspices of the Automobile Club de France, founded in 1895, this album traces the early history of the automobile before presenting the models produced by some forty French and foreign manufacturers. Richly illustrated, it documents in particular the De Dion-Bouton, Panhard and Levassor, Peugeot and Cambier firms, as well as the electric car manufacturers Cleveland and Ouzou.
The book also features numerous advertisements, including one for the famous Michelin Bibendum, which had only just been created.
A good copy despite the slightly worn cover; the interior is in good condition.
