[PHOTOGRAPHY – BARCELONA]. Album: the 100th anniversary of La Maquinista terrestre y maritima, the renowned Spanish construction company. No place, no date [circa 1955]. 39 period silver gelatine prints (180 x 120 mm) mounted on sheets attached to tabs in a quarto-sized album bound in cream-coloured vellum, with a smooth spine decorated with gold fillets and garlands and the gold-lettered title ‘La Maquinista terrestre y maritima’, and a gold-embossed border on the covers, the front cover bearing the company’s coat of arms and the dates 1855–1955. The leaves are very slightly warped. A souvenir album of photographs bound together by the Barcelona-based company La Maquinista Terrestre y Maritima, one of Spain’s oldest railway construction and heavy machinery firms. These are undoubtedly photographs of the celebrations held to mark the company’s centenary: scenes of dinners, inaugurations and festive events. One celebration held in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Barcelona can be seen, which highlights the local importance of this company, which employed over 4,000 people at the time.
