A copy printed on uncut Rives paper. Paris, Mornay – ‘Les Beaux Livres’ collection, 1929. In-8, paperback, illustrated cover with raised panels, uncut. 325 pp., 32 colour woodcuts. Imprint from another book on the inside front cover, spine slightly browned. A superb illustrated edition featuring colour woodcuts by Georges Barbier (1882–1932), engraved by Gasperini, offering an Art Deco interpretation of Théophile Gautier’s famous romantic and exotic novel. Limited edition of 1,091 copies; this is one of the 902 numbered copies on Rives paper (no. 328). Included: a double loose-leaf insert, on paper bearing the monogram ‘G & A Mornay’, containing the printed text of pp. 321 and 322 immediately followed by the colophon, whilst the edition comprises 325 pages. In good condition, uncut.
