In-8, full green morocco, spine with raised bands richly decorated with small gilt ironwork and the publisher’s name in full, triple gilt fillet framing the covers with the title in gilt in the first year, inner edge in the same green morocco decorated with a gilt border, dotted fillet on the edges, guilloché endpapers, gilt edges. XLV and 370 pages, 12 plates of illustrations including 3 fold-outs, numerous diagrams in the text. In English. Spine faded, minimal stains on the covers, normal wear and tear. First edition of this study on the causes of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and storms by William Digby (1849–1904), a British journalist and humanitarian activist in India, whose cause he championed in Parliament. This copy is enhanced by an autograph dedication signed by the author, dated 16 August 1903, addressed to the Duke of Morny.
