In English. Spine tanned, with two small tears at the bottom. First American edition of this light-hearted monograph by Francis Carco, for whom Vertès illustrated *L’Amour vénal* and *Rue Pigalle*. Limited edition of 1,200 copies; this one features an autographed dedication by Vertès, dated 1952, addressed to another man of Hungarian origin, André Kostolany, a stock market expert, and his wife Hansi Beer: “To the guardians of the old lame horse, with warmest regards”. In good condition.
