Description
Rare signal rifle – message launcher/mooring line launcher. German Navy. Clearly marked as belonging to the port of Bremen. 1871-model breech, 11mm calibre, long, smooth, cylindrical barrel featuring a barley-grain sight. Bronze trigger guard present. As found; the wood is missing, the mechanism requires attention, but it provides a very good basis for restoration. Oxidation. Its provenance suggests it was used on land on the French front during the Great War.
