Description
A postilion’s jacket and armband from the second half of the 19th century. The jacket is made of dark blue cloth, with a front panel, collar, facings and lapels in scarlet cloth. The collar is trimmed with silver braid, which has come unstitched in places. The front panel is edged with 30 small silver-coloured buttons. On the left sleeve, a detachable armband in scarlet cloth with silver braid. In the centre of this is a silver-coloured metal plaque marked ‘Poste aux chevaux – Relais de Longjumeau’, manufactured by Auguste AMELING PASSAGE DU SAUMON. A false waistcoat sewn permanently in place, featuring 21 small silver-coloured buttons. Lapels trimmed with two buttons each. Fake back pockets in blue cloth with white piping, featuring 18 buttons. Moth holes. Second Republic period.
