Description
3 - A rare decoration from the Shanghai Concession Special Volunteer Police. A round, double-sided medallion in silver-coloured metal. On the obverse, a vertical sword in its scabbard set against a bed of laurel leaves, crossed by the inscription; the medallion is marked ‘SERVIR’ in relief across its entire width; the pommel of the sword, which is pierced, bears a loop ring. Text on the reverse: ‘MEDAILLE DE SHANGAI CONCESSION FRANCAISE’ (Shanghai French Concession Medal), and not the engraver’s mark ‘L. MAYOL’. With its midnight blue ribbon featuring two narrow white and red stripes on either side along the edge of the ribbon. Silver bar inscribed ‘POLICE SPECIALE VOLONTAIRE AOUT-NOV 1937’ (text on three lines). (Condition 1)
