2 – A rare medal issued by the French Concession in Shanghai, known as the Silver Medal of Civic Merit. A round, double-sided medallion in silver-plated metal; on the obverse, the text ‘Concession Française de Changai’ (sic) is set within a peripheral cartouche; in the centre is a coat of arms featuring a rooster and a junk, surmounted by the city’s fortified gate, with text in ideograms.
