Bottle identified - 2nd Infantry Division - 38th Field Artillery Battalion Manufacture: Vollrath Dated 1943 Quarter without visible marking. Serial number on cover: 18049279 Matches Private Russell Donald Crane (1923-2003) Enlisted on 25 March 1941, he was posted to the 2nd "Indian Head" Infantry Division - 38th Field Artillery Battalion (105mm Howitzer). He took part in the Normandy landings, the Battle of the Bulge and the advance into Central Europe. He spent a total of 337 days in action. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He died on 26 April 2003 and is buried in San José - San Antonio Cemetery, Bexar, Texas.
