Description
T-5 Parachute Harness - 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment" - 101st Airborne Division. Type T-5 Parachute Harness, issued to the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. Marked with a "G" for "Geronimo" trapped by lightning. Dated July 1943. This harness was recovered in the Pouppeville sector (Manche), near Sainte-Mère-Eglise. The objectives of the three drop zones (A-C-D) were to the east of Route National 13 and the 501st Regiment's objective was to capture the Barquette locks and destroy the bridges over the Douve near Carentan. The third battalion achieved the feat of taking the key road from Utah Beach to Pouppeville with a group of around 100 men.
