Description
NASH 600 Trunk Sedan model Chassis number K-194209 Remains in near original condition Rare model in collection Authentic Us Army staff car Ready to drive An emblematic model from the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation of Kenosha, Wisconsin, which specialised not only in cars but also in household appliances, including imposing modern refrigerators. The '600' was produced from 1942 to 1949 in various models and body styles. It was given its commercial name because it could travel 600 miles on a full tank of petrol, giving it a range of over 900 kilometres - a feat for its time. It also featured a number of technical innovations, including a triangulated front axle and a pre-assembled body/chassis assembly. In 1942, the production of civilian cars in the USA came to a complete halt, and the focus shifted solely to the manufacture of military equipment. Nash contributed to the war effort by producing sights, binoculars and aircraft parts. Nash assembled the imposing Pratt & Whitney R2800 engine powering the F4-U Corsair fighters, the most powerful of its time. Nash also produced Sikorsky R6 helicopters, the first machine of this type during the Second World War. Production of the Nash "600" saloon resumed in 1945. The Nash 600 remains a rare collector's car in Europe. The imposing General Motors had developed its network of importers before the war, enabling the distribution of its Chevrolet and Pontiac models. This example of the '600' is a type 4740 series, with 'Trunk Sedan' bodywork and finish, and remains in near-original condition. Its owner, a Swiss collector, had found it in Germany, sold as surplus at a US Army base. In perfect working order, he has since carefully preserved and maintained it, taking part in numerous D-Day commemorations in Normandy behind the wheel. Its production plate, bodywork and engine, mechanical and electrical systems and upholstery are all in their original, perfectly preserved condition. The dashboard with its "brushed" finish and the quality of the materials have stood the test of time, remaining in superb condition. A vintage Nash option, it is fitted with the Wheather Eye air ventilation and heating system. All the gauges and switches work, as does the windscreen wiper system. Its bakelite steering wheel with Nash logo is in superb condition. Its Nash Type 173 in-line 6-cylinder engine, with almost 3 litres of displacement and 82 horsepower, provides easy, comfortable driving with astonishing torque and acceleration. A rare collector's item, on the road and as close to its original condition as possible, this Nash 600 is an opportunity not to be missed.
