Description
Rare Special Operations Executive (SOE) jump suit This camouflage jumpsuit was designed specifically for the SOE during the Second World War. It was a full-body suit to be worn over the officer's clothing when parachuting. The suit had two felt-padded pockets containing a shovel and its handle, allowing the agent to bury it after landing and thus recover his civilian clothes. It is made from khaki cotton canvas with a green and brown camouflage pattern. The front zip is secured by two zips. The zips are marked 'Made in England' and the leather tabs are still there. The fly has a zip and retains its original leather pull tab. A patch pocket on the leg, fastened with a press stud to hold a handgun. A small pocket on the lower left sleeve was designed to hold a knife, held in place by a piece of parachute line that is still present. A large rear pocket was originally designed to hold shock-absorbing padding, which is not present on this suit. Other inside pockets can be seen in the photos. The two functional main zips are designed so that the pull tabs can be pulled past the sliders at the top of their travel. This allows the front of the suit to be completely unzipped and removed - hence the nickname 'strip-tease suit'. The suit has many patches of discolouration. A fantastic piece of original Second World War equipment that will add wonderfully to any collection.
