Description
Jeep Willys MB Remains in original condition Identification plate and matching production Genuine historic Willys jeep Chassis & plate number MB-299540 Engine number MB-354775 Production dated 18 January 1944 Functional and roadworthy, in need of servicing An ambassador for the Allied armies in all theatres of operations during the Second World War, the Jeep has become more than just a symbol of military motoring. Highly prized and sought-after in collections, Willys MB Jeeps and Ford Gpw Jeeps in near production-standard condition are now extremely rare. This example offered for sale is a truly historic Jeep, rediscovered and then carefully preserved in as close to original condition as possible. Its production and chassis plates are "Matching", perfectly original and with the same MB-299540 number indicating manufacture on 18 January 1944 by Willys Overland Company, at its imposing factory in Toledo, Ohio, USA. Its contract and registration number determines an order and delivery for the Commonwealth forces and more specifically the Australian Army, intensively engaged on all fronts during the Second World War. Our jeep remained in service until September 1960, when it was sold on the civilian market. We found a copy of the decommissioning register from the Australian army's equipment department, showing its internal number, chassis and engine number, which corresponds perfectly to our MB example. It was subsequently used on a large farm in New South Wales, Australia, without being dismantled or modified. Unearthed by an English collector and transported to Europe in the 1990s. Simply serviced and kept in running and rolling order, its state of preservation is exceptional. Most of its bodywork, engine and peripherals remain in their original condition. Of particular note are the period production pressure gauges and instrument panel meter, the fire wall box, the Willys steering wheel, the air filter with stamped instructions and the petrol filter with AC label, the starter motor and dynamo, and the regulator with its Auto-Lite production plates. But also its rear lights, Guide-built front blackouts, oil can, some original reflectors and rear-view mirror glass, bolted battle-style rims... Used and sometimes overhauled, some parts have obviously been replaced. Typical of BRT contract jeeps, produced to British Army standards and used in the Commonwealth, the horn control is located on the dashboard, as is the starter switch. Produced in the standard olive drab colour, it has been given an Australian Army dark green paint job, and its bonnet number is original, but has simply been brushed over to make it more visible. More than rare, functional and roadworthy, this Willys is an authentic historic jeep that must be carefully preserved in its current condition. One of the last opportunities to acquire a Jeep Willys MB in original condition.
