Description
Memoirs of Alphonse Frédéric Emmanuel, Count of Grouchy. (1789–1864) Son of Marshal de Grouchy, in 1806 he was at the Military Academy at Fontainebleau, Second Lieutenant in the 10th Dragoon Regiment, wounded at Eylau in 1807, aide-de-camp to his father, distinguished himself at Wagram in 1809, made a Knight of the Legion of Honour, and was wounded at the Battle of the Moskva, He charged at Waterloo at the head of the 12th Chasseurs Regiment. During the Restoration, he was on half pay and left for the United States. Upon the accession of King Louis-Philippe, he was Colonel of the 3rd Regiment of Mounted Chasseurs and Member of Parliament for Allier; he was appointed Field Marshal in 1831. He served as a member of the Committee, then as Inspector of Cavalry, first in France and later in Algeria. In 1842, he was a Lieutenant-General; a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour in 1849; he became a Senator in 1852; France’s Royal and Military Order of Saint Louis.
