JAPAN. Edo period, 17th to 19th century. Set of 9 iron tsuba, including one of the Akasaka type, openwork and chiselled with motifs of chrysanthemum petals and dakimyoga (ginger shoots); a cruciform tsuba with chiselled decoration of geese and waves on one side, and a landscape on the reverse, signed Yamashiro no kuni Fushimi no ju Kaneie; one of the Mokko-gata type, adorned with chiselled striations (Amida yasurime), the rim bearing traces of silver-inlaid curls; an openwork oval, chiselled with two saddles (kuda) ending in gold curls, signed Bushu no ju Masakata; a small openwork oval depicting geese in flight; a quadrangular piece with a serrated rim, openworked with two Genjimon; a Maru-gata piece decorated with birds and willow; a Maru-gata piece adorned with Jurojin accompanied by a child and a crane; the last, a Maru-gata piece featuring motifs of chrysanthemums, butterflies and rocks.
