A precursor of psychiatry, he studied "vapours" two years after Raulin. In the sixteenth century, vapours were an exclusively female ailment, causing convulsions and hysterical attacks, and were held responsible for a multitude of ailments. ¶ Jean MONTEIL, "Pierre Pomme et les maladies nerveuses au XVIIIe siècle" - Not in Garrison & Morton.
