Four volumes in-folio in marbled havana calf, spines decorated with gilt boxes and gilt irons, title and appendix in garnet morocco and black basane, red edges (Binding of the period). Vol. 1: (1) title page, 163 pp, 81 plates (including 7 double-page plates and 1 small folding plate), (1) page of table of contents - Vol. 2: (2) title page, 156 pp, 82 plates (including 9 double-page plates and one folding plate "Temple of Mecca"), (2) page of table of contents and explanation of plate 151 - Vol. 3: (2) title page, 200 pp, 60 plates (of which 13 double-page plates), (1) f. table of contents - Vol. 4: 224 pp. 31 plates (of which 7 double-page plates), 40 pp. 4 plates (of which 3 double-page plates), 44 pp. 6 plates, (1) f. table of contents. Defects: Corners of 1st flyleaf and 1st blank page of vol. 1 gnawed, very scattered light marginal spotting in the main parts of the works, more marked in vol. 1, tear of 15 cm at the fold of the plate "danse des dervis" (dance of the dervishes), tiny worm work without affecting the text in the upper margin of the last 2 parts of vol. 4, small leather loss at the upper head of vol. 2, a few small tears and epidermis on the boards, a few corners dulled. NEW EDITION of this IMPORTANT ILLUSTRATED WORK, one of the most beautiful of the 18th century. It contains 4 headpieces and 264 steel-engraved plates, 41 of which are double-page or folding. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE, in a period binding in GOOD CONDITION, complete with all the plates; the scattered spotting throughout the work has not weakened the quality of the fine laid paper and is very often marginal. ¶ Brunet, I, 1743 - Sabin, 4931 - Cohen, 134, for the original edition of 1733.
