Two parts in one small folio volume on contemporary ivory vellum, the author's name formerly calligraphed in brown ink on the 1st board, in the centre of 4 concentric fillets; (12) ff, 439 pp, (1) p. with printer's mark - (10) ff, 87 ff, (1) p. errata. Defects: Marbled paper has been pasted on the spine, the spinebands and the 1st quarter of the boards, probably at the end of the 19th century, with a title label, 1st flyleaf and endpaper renewed in the 20th century; foxing, a few rare leaves uniformly foxed, some light marginal spotting. FIRST EDITION by the German publisher Chritian Egenolff (1528-1566) of the CELEBRATED TREATY OF BOTANY AND PHARMACOPY by the Greek physician, pharmacologist and botanist Pedanius DIOSCORIDES (1st century BC). The second part of the work, with its own title page and pagination, is the 1st edition of the commentary by Johann Lonitzer and Walther Hermann Ryff.
