Description
NETHERLANDS – KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS (WILLIAM I) – Gold ducat, 1828, Utrecht. Obverse: A knight in armour standing facing right, brandishing a sword in his right hand and holding a bundle of arrows in his left hand. The year (1828) is split on either side of the figure. - CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRESCUNT. Reverse: Inscription on five lines within an ornate square cartouche. - MO. AUR. / REG. BELGII / AD LEGEM / IMPERII. Gross weight: 3.4 g. Metal and fineness: 983 gold. References: KM# 50.1, Fr# 331. Condition: TTB+ Historical note: The Dutch gold ducat was used for a long time as an international trade currency. Its design, featuring a knight holding arrows, established at the end of the 16th century, remained almost unchanged for several centuries; the 1828 issue from Utrecht is part of this tradition.
