Obverse: Head of Liberty facing left, wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with a wreath of cotton and ears of wheat. Legend ‘E · PLURIBUS · UNUM’, thirteen stars and the year of issue. Design by George T. Morgan. Reverse: American eagle with outstretched wings holding an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath; inscriptions ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’, ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’ and ‘ONE DOLLAR’. Mint mark beneath the wreath where present. Contents of the lot: 1 dollar 1879 – Philadelphia, no mint mark – mintage 14,806,000. 1 dollar 1884-S – San Francisco – mintage 3,200,000. 1 dollar 1884-O – New Orleans – mintage 9,730,000. 1 dollar 1885-O – New Orleans – mintage 9,185,000. Edge: Fluted. Legal weight: 26.73 g per coin. Metal and fineness: 900 silver. Diameter: 38.10 mm. Total legal weight: 106.92 g. Total face value: 4 dollars. Condition: TTB to TTB+; varying patinas, traces of circulation and marks on the rims.
