SWITZERLAND – BASEL – Gold commemorative plaque ‘Die Goldene Briefmarke Schweiz – Basler Täubchen 1845’, no. 3153. Obverse: Embossed reproduction of the ‘Basel Dove ’ (Basler Taube), based on the design of the 1845 cantonal stamp: a dove carrying a letter in its beak in the centre of a shield, the Basel crozier at the top and the inscription ‘STADT POST BASEL’. Denomination ‘2½ Rp.’ in the lower corners. Reverse: Inscription ‘DIE GOLDENE BRIEFMARKE / SCHWEIZ / BASELER-TAUBCHEN / 1845’. Individual number ‘3153’ in the lower left-hand corner; fineness mark ‘9999’ in the lower right-hand corner. Edge: Smooth. Gross weight: 10.00 g. Metal and fineness: 999.9 gold. Numbering: No. 3153. Presentation: Accompanied by its certificate. Condition: SUP. Philatelic reference for the prototype: Zumstein 8. Historical note: This medallion reproduces the ‘Basel Dove’, a 2½ rappen cantonal stamp issued in 1845 based on a design by Melchior Berri. The original stamp is characterised in particular by its embossed dove and its multi-colour printing.
