Cousin of the anti-Stalinist General Andrei Vlassov, who raised a Russian army under German command during the Second World War,Alexandre Vlassoff, born in 1898 under the Tsarist Empire, emigrated to France during the Communist Revolution and set up an accountancy firm.Because of his surname, he was quickly identified by the French Communists in 1944 and emigrated to Britain for a time, before returning to Paris in the early 1950s, where he died in 1982.A polyglot, like many Slavs, he spoke fluent Russian, French, English and German. He was passionate about history and harboured a deep-seated hatred for the communists who had murdered his cousin Andrei.
