Description
FIRST WORLD WAR – DOUAI] A period poster, once displayed on the walls and now torn down. Douai was occupied by the Germans under a military administration.The mayor was in office but was under the control of a military governor. During those years, there were numerous restrictions, which were announced via posters. An unknown person tore this one down. Removed clandestinely, it bears the physical traces of having been torn down. CITY OF DOUAI, NORTHERN FRANCE FOOD SUPPLY COMMITTEE, NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC. Signed ‘The Mayor, Charles Bertin’ at the bottom of the poster, 37 x 55 cm; sections of paper are missing at the bottom of the document due to it being torn off.
