An official letter from the Grand Chancellery of the Legion of Honour, dated 13 April 1808,informing Mr Jean Emanuelli, a former foot hunter of the Imperial Guard, of his appointment as a member of the Legion of Honour with effect from the first Vendémiaire, Year XII. DOCUMENT BEARING THE AUTOGRAPH SIGNATURE OF THE COUNT DE LACEPEDE, GRAND CHANCELLOR;Lacépède served as Grand Chancellor throughout the Empire’s existence from 1803 to 1814; he was also a distinguished naturalist and, together with Buffon, the author of *The Natural History*. 2- Extract from the birth registers for the year 1765 concerning Jean Emanuelli, born in Calvi on 5 March 1765. This document was essential for compiling the ‘administrative’ file required to obtain the Legion of Honour.
