[FIRST WORLD WAR – VALENCIENNES] A poster from the period, which had been put up on the walls and subsequently torn down. Valenciennes was occupied by the Germans under a military administration.The mayor was in office but was under the control of a military governor. During those years, there were numerous restrictions, which were announced via posters. An unknown person tore this one down. Removed clandestinely, it bears the physical marks of having been torn down. “NOTICE” Concerning banknotes issued by the German occupation authorities to alleviate the shortage of “official” banknotes.
