FIRST WORLD WAR – DOUAI] A poster from the period, which had been put up on the walls and subsequently torn down. Douai was occupied by the Germans under a military administrative regime.The mayor was in office but was under the control of a military governor. During those years, there were numerous restrictions, which were announced via posters. An unknown person tore this one down. Removed clandestinely, it bears the physical marks of having been torn down. “NOTICE: LAUNDRY AND IRONING OF LINEN, PRICE CONTROL” Prices set by the German authorities to combat any price gouging.
