[SECOND EMPIRE – COVER FEATURING COATS OF ARMS] “History of the Second Empire” by Pierre de La Gorce, Paris, Plon, 1903, Volume VI only, 468 pages, numerous fold-out maps,FEATURING THE COATS OF ARMS AND EX-LIBRIS OF THE PRINCES AND COUNTS OF ANTIOCH at the bottom of the spine and on the inside front cover, half-shagreen binding in faded colours, spine with five raised bands.A very ancient family dating back to the Crusades; upon the extinction of the line of the Counts of Tripoli, who held the title, the title of Prince of Antioch passed to the Kings of Cyprus, descended from a junior branch of the Poitiers-Antioch family.One of the descendants settled in the mid-19th century in Niernier, Savoy, on the French shore of Lake Geneva, in an austere building, the remains of which date back to the Middle Ages. A substantial library was assembled, the bindings of which all bore the coat of arms of the family of Antioch.
