Description
PAQUET (René) – Analytical Bibliography of the History of Metz during the Revolution (1789–1800); printed works and manuscripts. Paris, Picard, 1926; quarto, 1504 + 118 pp. of index, full burgundy cloth bindings, plain spines, navy blue leather title labels, covers preserved. Both volumes. A work printed in an edition of 200 copies; copy number 5 on Imperial Japan paper. A monumental work that catalogues and comments on the city’s history through ephemera such as posters, proclamations, etc.; and which lists the names of all those who participated, directly or indirectly—sometimes against their will—in the day-to-day life of the Revolution. This collection is all the more significant given that most of the documents relating to the Revolution in Metz were burnt during the battles of the Liberation in 1944.
