Description
[MAHN] - DICKENS (Charles) - David Copperfield. Marseille, Club du Livre, 1948; in-8, 409 + 393 + 399 pp., paperback, padded covers, slipcases. The 3 volumes. Dickens was born in Portsmouth and died in Kent. He was the most popular English writer of the nineteenth century. His family’s poverty forced him to start working at the age of 12. His father was imprisoned for debt. He returned to a private school for three years (the family’s circumstances had improved). He began writing in 1833, penning stories and serialised works for newspapers. Indeed, this is how most of his works came into being. Numbered copy. Illustrations by Berthold Mahn.
