ROUSSEAU (Jean-Jacques) - Oeuvres. Paris, Lequien, 1821; in-8, about 450 pp. per volume, bound in contemporary full calf, spines with 4 raised bands, edges painted, fillets on covers. All 20 volumes. Complete with the writings on music and the dictionary of music. With 4 volumes of correspondence. One of the greatest philosophers of the Age of Enlightenment. His ideas influenced the French Revolution. He tried to create a system of music notation and wrote a dictionary of music. In 1750, he took part in a competition organised by the Dijon Academy, with his speech on the sciences. Mottling at the top of some volumes. Beautiful decorative binding.
