Description
A very fine pair of English self-loading defence pistols with a front-loading mechanism. Two smooth-bore octagonal barrels in 32-calibre.
A remarkable feature of this fine pair is that the barrels are monobloc (forged together from a single block of steel). The concave band bears the capital letter marking "P.BOND. 45. CORNHILL. LONDON". The barrels still retain a small amount of their leaf-pattern bluing. Flat lock plates (two-pillar trigger guard with complex cut-outs resulting from the conversion of a flintlock, flat hammer, and a chimney-style design on the weight where the pan holders would be. Each lock plate bears the signature "P.BOND".
Iron-mounted arms, round cap decorated with radiating flowers, round bridge at the front foot extending into a pineapple-shaped extension facing an iron hood also decorated with a pineapple motif. Wooden ramrods with horn tips, one of which features a ball extractor. Beautiful round mount in varnished walnut ending halfway down the barrel, grip adorned with a fine right-angled checkered pattern.
Overall length: 385 mm. Mechanism in working order.
