Description
Set of three documents relating to JEAN-DE-DIEU SOULT (1769–1851), Duke of Dalmatia and Marshal of the Empire. An interesting collection comprising: The appointment of a squadron commander dated 13 February 1814 for the 21st Regiment of Mounted Chasseurs in the name of LECLAIRE and signed: “DUKE OF DALMATIA” “MARSHAL OF THE EMPIRE, LIEUTENANT GENERAL OF THE EMPEROR, COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF HIS MAJESTY’S ARMIES IN SPAIN”. Attached are the service records of the aforementioned LECLAIRE. Table showing the organisation of the French forces in the Pyrenees as at 10 March 1814 Proclamation poster signed "DUKE OF DALMATIA". This proclamation of 8 March 1814, printed in Toulouse and entitled "SOLDIERS", urges men to take up arms against the "enemies of the Empire" and paints an unflattering picture of the English nation. A historical artefact from the final moments of the Empire. Tears at the edges.
