Description
VIC (Claude de), VAISSETTE (Joseph) and DU MEGE (Alexandre): *General History of Languedoc*, with notes and supporting documents. Toulouse, J.B. Paya, 1840–1846. 10 volumes in 8°, contemporary half-morocco binding in dark green long-grain. New edition of this imposing General History of Languedoc by the Benedictine monks Joseph Vaissete and Claude de Vic, first published in 1730–1745. It was annotated and continued up to 1830 by the historian and archaeologist Alexandre du Mège (1780–1862), who also expanded it with a large number of charters and unpublished documents. The supplementary illustrations include a portrait of Vaissete engraved on steel by Alphonse Boilly, 5 colour-enhanced maps and 63 plates of views, plans, monuments, coins etc., including 26 double-page plates mounted on tabs.
