Note: Anglo-Indian silversmithing developed at the instigation of the British during the colonial period; it is characterised by a fusion of European forms (teapots, cutlery, candelabras, boxes), local techniques and aesthetics and European tastes. Goldsmiths' workshops were located in several cities, each with its own particular style: Calcutta, Madras, Bombay (Mumbai), Kashmir and Srinagar, Cutch, Lucknow, Rangoon in Burma.
