Description
JEAN-VALENTIN MOREL AND HENRI DUPONCHEL (attributed to)
A remarkable goldsmith's work from the mid-19th century (circa 1845), this five-part articulated bracelet is made of 750/1000 gold,
The work displays a striking narrative naturalism: a branch of oak intertwined with ivy supports at its centre a nest containing three eggs in fine pearls.
6 cm in diameter, 17 cm long (open)
The scene is brought to life by a dramatic composition in which a mother bird defends her clutch against the threat of a lizard.
The vegetal details are magnified by touches of green enamel highlighting the ivy leaves (the enamel is slightly missing).
Unsigned and dispensed,
This piece is one of the finest examples of French Romantic jewellery.
A similar piece, dated 1845 but without enamel, is in the Louvre Museum.
