Piat-Joseph SAUVAGE (1744-1818) Two lovers celebrating a dolphin, one ringing in a shell, the other dancing: probable allegory of the birth of the Dauphin, Louis Joseph Xavier François de France, son of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette, 22 October 1781. Miniature grisaille on ivory, imitation cameo, signed lower centre: Sauvage Diameter of miniature: 4.3 cm In a square burnished wood frame with gilt brass visor, annotated on the reverse Provenance : according to a handwritten note provided to us, from a sale by Jean-Marc Delvaux, Drouot, 7/12/1998 n° 119, sold for 4500 francs.
