Description
Portable davat inkwell in the form of a mausoleum, Khorassan, 12th - 13th century Cylindrical inkwell with bulbous lid, in bronze with engraved decoration on the body of three poly-lobed arches housing a sphinx, alternating with medallions decorated with palmette fleurons. On the lid, around the central ribbed bulb, alternate three medallions similar to those on the body and three epigraphic cartouches inscribed in cursive Arabic on a plant background with formulas for good wishes ("power, good fortune and happiness"). Three suspension rings on the body and lid. Total height: 7.5 cm; D. 5.5 cm Some traces of oxidation, small traces of soldering. Provenance: Boisgirard, Paris, 18 June 2009, lot 180. Collection of M.
