Georges MALISSARD (1877–1942). ‘The Horsewoman, Louise de Nanteuil’. Bronze group with a nuanced black patina, signed on the plinth, dated 1923, and bearing the Valsuani lost-wax casting mark. H. 50 cm W. 47 cm. History: This bronze depicts Louise de Nanteuil, an accomplished horsewoman, riding a horse that had been given to her by a close friend, Marshal Foch. Louise de Nanteuil lived in a private mansion in Neuilly-sur-Seine, where she entertained the cream of Parisian society, including Georges Malissard, who immortalised her in this way.
