Description
BURMA – 18th century. A large Buddha statue carved from wood and lacquered in gold, seated in the padmasana posture, with his hands in the bhumisparsa mudra (the gesture of calling the earth to witness). He is adorned with jewellery, including a pectoral and a crown inlaid with mirrors; the crown is surmounted by a tall stem in the shape of a lotus flower and bud. Height: 143 cm.
