Plan of the slave ship *La Vigilante* of Nantes, seized at Boni in the Gulf of Guinea on 15 April 1822.
Facsimile.
61 x 47 cm (viewed).
Framed under glass; not examined outside the frame.
The case of the slave-trading brig *La Vigilante*: this brig was seized by the British Navy in 1822, although as early as 1815, at the Congress of Vienna, the European powers had agreed to abolish the slave trade. However, France was among the countries that failed to honour this commitment. Brought back to England and then to France, this case was used by the Society of Christian Morality to campaign for the abolition of slavery.
