FRANCE. Two 10-franc coins, 1986: Schumann and Jimenez. D. 20 mm. The 10-franc Schumann (G 825) and the 10-franc Jimenez (G 824) formed a pair; but as they were too small and got mixed up in the cash registers with the 50-centime ‘sower’ coin, the 10-franc Jimenez coin was overwhelmingly rejected by the public, to such an extent that it was demonetised less than six months after it was put into circulation. Consequently, the 10-franc Schumann was not issued at all and was almost entirely remelted.
