Michel CIRY (1919–2018), Orchards at Bures, Orne, Normandy, 1961, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right, titled, countersigned and dated on the reverse of the canvas – approx. 32 x 54 cm (visible area) (in good overall condition) COMMENT: A painter and printmaker, Michel CIRY was born in La Baule and studied at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris. As a painter, he abandoned oil painting in favour of watercolour and pastel from 1944 onwards. In 1941, he was awarded a travel grant and, in 1945, the Prix National. A member of the Salon des Peintres Graveurs and the Salon d’Automne, he also exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon des Tuileries. Works by this artist are held at the Cabinet des Estampes at the Petit Palais, at the Albertina in Vienna, and in Belgium, the Netherlands and England. (Source: Benezit)
